In this tutorial, we will learn how to create a paper tear effect in PowerPoint. This effect can be used to reveal a grayscale image underneath a colored image, creating a dynamic and visually appealing presentation.

Step 1: Setting Up the Slide (00:54 - 01:19)

First, we need to set up the slide:

  1. Add a new slide.
  2. Insert an image of your choice. In this case, we have inserted an image from Unsplash.com.

Step 2: Adjusting the Image (01:19 - 02:33)

Next, we adjust the image to fit the slide:

  1. Select the image.
  2. Go to Picture Format > Crop > Aspect Ratio > 16:9.
  3. Adjust the visible area of the image as needed.
  4. Click outside the image to apply the crop.
  5. Drag the image to cover the entire slide.

Step 3: Creating the Tear Effect (02:33 - 04:27)

Now, we create the tear effect:

  1. Go to Insert > Shapes > Lines > Freeform Scribble.
  2. Draw a scribble on the area of the image you want to highlight.
  3. Set the Shape Outline to No Outline.
  4. Right-click on the shape and go to Format Shape.
  5. Under Fill, select Picture or Texture Fill and click on the clipboard. This will fill the shape with the image you copied earlier.
  6. Adjust the image within the shape as needed using the Offset properties.
  7. Apply a shadow effect to the shape if desired.

Step 4: Applying the Grayscale Effect (04:27 - 05:00)

Next, we apply a grayscale effect to the highlighted area:

  1. Select the shape.
  2. Go to Picture Format > Color.
  3. Select Grayscale. This will turn the image within the shape into grayscale.

Step 5: Adding the Animation (05:00 - 07:52)

Finally, we add an animation to the tear effect:

  1. Select the shape.
  2. Go to Animations.
  3. Enable the Animation Pane.
  4. Apply a Wipe effect to the shape. Set the direction to From Right.
  5. Adjust the timing of the animation as needed.

That’s it! Now you have a PowerPoint slide with a paper tear effect. When you click on the slide, the colored image will appear to tear, revealing a grayscale image underneath. This effect can be used to create dynamic and visually appealing presentations.
